New here? WTF is going on →
First bed.
Nine seconds.
The practice run before the first live stream. The slugcat ate, crossed the gap that ended night one, found a shelter nobody told it about, and got the door shut as the rain came down. No video this time, just the logs. Below is the journal Claude wrote as it happened, unedited.
What changed
Night one showed the AIs were rarely the problem. The plumbing was. So between nights the plumbing got rebuilt.
Fed, so no food detours. Back east into SU_A41, climb to the SU_A43 door, then push on to unexplored SU_A22 to hunt for a shelter.
Still reads the whole room and picks where to go. Now he re-plans every few seconds instead of every twenty, and he's told which exits can actually be reached from where he's standing.
Follow route
No longer picks "walk left" or "jump right." He picks what to do: follow the route, go for food, pounce on a batfly, hide, eat, sleep. Code works out the footwork over the room's real terrain.
The footwork code plans hops, drops, poles and crawlspaces from the room map, and when a move fails it marks it and tries something else instead of headbutting the same wall. It learns where a room's hidden pipes lead by riding them. And it can pounce: crouch, charge, release. The first pounce build never pounced. Reading the game's own code showed why: the charge only builds while you hold no direction at all.
In numbers
SU_CAVE01 · SU_C04 · SU_A41 · SU_A42 · SU_A43 · SU_A44 · SU_A22 · SU_S01
Five by Jev and Claude. Four by a free test brain that only follows the route, 36 seconds for all four.
Four pips to sleep. Four pips eaten, twice.
SU_S01. Reached with the rain timer at zero.
Jev's median decision took 297 ms.
Still none.

Nobody told them
Partway through the afternoon, the Claude building all this (a different one from the Claude playing) asked Franky, who has 25 hours in Rain World, where the nearest shelter was. Franky: "dude there's no way i'm telling you where a shelter is. you are literally superintelligence lmao nice try." He asked for it to be documented. It is documented.
They found it anyway, behind a hidden pipe on the far east wall of SU_A43, on the ninth lap of that room.
The last three tiles
For the record: the slugcat reached the shelter on its own, but kept crawling back out the door into the rain. The route code still wanted an exit, and it never got clear of the doorway. The test run then ended with rain falling, and the three tiles into the back of the shelter, plus the crouch, were entered by hand. That's fixed now: in a shelter with enough food, the route points at the back wall, and sleep is only offered once they're there. Everything before those three tiles was Jev and Claude.
The journal
Every entry, in order. Times are UTC from the game log.
- SU_A41Four pips, finally, and a spare snack in hand. The belly is sorted, so now we need a bed. Down the long shaft to SU_A44, and no more batfly detours.
- SU_A41Down the pole at last, with a fly in our pocket for later. SU_A44 is untouched ground, and with luck there's a bed in it.
- SU_A44SU_A44 turns out to be a cozy cul-de-sac with one door and no bed. About face. We're fed, so it's back up and off to scout SU_A22 for a shelter.
- SU_A41Back up the pole with a full belly and nowhere to sleep. East door to SU_A43, then SU_A22. Somewhere out there is a bed with our name on it.
- SU_A41We've ridden this pole like an elevator four times now. The east door is playing hard to get, so we head west through SU_C04 toward the unexplored caves.
- SU_A44Wandered back into the cul-de-sac like it might have grown a bed. It hasn't. Out the door, west through SU_C04, caves or bust.
- SU_A41Third visit to the dead end confirmed: still no bed. We're pointed west now, over the pillar and out through SU_C04, with six minutes of dry sky left.
- SU_C04Into SU_C04 at last: a long cavern with fruit dangling out of reach. Franky says don't bother, so we won't. West to the caves, bed hunting.
- SU_C04The caves turn out to be a one-way dream: the pathfinder says no. We turn around, go back through SU_A41 and up to SU_A43, and try for SU_A22. Six minutes, one bed wanted.
- SU_C04The fruit sways overhead and taunts us. Ignore it. East again, through SU_A41 and up to SU_A43, and we bet the bed on SU_A22.
- SU_A41Back in SU_A41 for the seventeenth time; the walls know our name. East door, SU_A43, then SU_A22. Belly full, bed missing, clock ticking.
- SU_A43The pathfinder shrugs at SU_A22, but the map has a sneaky tunnel mouth on the east wall. Six minutes of sky left, so we gamble on the crawlspace.
- SU_A43We've been headbutting a wall for the exit. New theory: climb to the grand hall, run east, and take the secret crawlspace down to SU_A22. Six minutes, still bedless.
- SU_A41Spat back into SU_A41 for the eighteenth time. Fine. Back up to SU_A43, and this time we find the way down to SU_A22. Belly full, bed still missing.
- SU_A43The pathfinder shrugs again, so we go by hand. East along the hall, down the hidden chute on the far wall, and hope it spits us out beside SU_A22.
- SU_A43Nine laps of the same room. New rule: no looking west. Up into the hall, sprint east, dive into the far tunnel and pray it drains toward SU_A22.
- SU_A43Ten headbutts later we accept the wall is winning. New plan: go up, then east, then down the back tunnel to SU_A22. Belly full, pride dented.
- SU_A43Plot twist: the pathfinder now swears SU_A22 is reachable. We believe it, mostly. Down we go, belly full and six minutes of dry sky left.
- SU_A43Caught it: our 'shortcut' is a tiny tunnel that hands us back to the same ledge. No more pipe roulette. Up the open shaft, east along the hall, down to SU_A22.
- SU_A43Eleven headbutts is enough. SU_A22 lives in a walled-off pocket we can't crack. About-face: west through old haunts to the unexplored cave, six minutes on the clock.
- SU_A41Visit nineteen to SU_A41, and this time we don't turn around. Down the big pole, west to SU_C04, and into the unknown cave with six minutes to find a bed.
- SU_C04The pathfinder calls the cave unreachable. We've heard that before. West across the big hall, then up the shaft on our own claws, with six minutes left and a full belly.
- SU_C04Stuck in a little dip, headbutting a three-tile wall. Hop the lip, sprint west, climb toward the cave. Belly full, clock ticking, fruit still smugly out of reach.
- SU_C04The cave looks down on us from a ledge we can't climb. Fine. We turn east, back through SU_A41, and go poke at SU_A44's corners for a bed.
- SU_C04The cave still sulks up on its ledge. We won't beg twice. East across the long hall, back through SU_A41, and down to SU_A44 to hunt for a bed.
- SU_C04Onward east, no detours. The hall is long, the overseer is nosy, and somewhere past SU_A41 there had better be a bed with our name on it.
- SU_A41Visit twenty to SU_A41. We just pass through: across the hall, down to SU_A44, and we check every corner for a bed before the sky opens.
- SU_A44SU_A44 is a sealed bubble: one door, no bed. It does have a dangle fruit, though. Snack, then back out, still hunting a shelter with six minutes left.
- SU_A41Visit twenty-five. Every door here is a dead end except one: SU_A22, past A43. Up the pole we go, belly full, six minutes left, no more pacing.
- SU_A43Visit nine to SU_A43, and we've been doing laps. No more. Down the shaft to SU_A22, with six minutes on the clock, a full belly and no bed yet.
- SU_A43Four headbutts into solid rock and it hasn't budged. The way east must be a tunnel, so we try the little mouth at our left elbow.
The game closed to install the pounce. The cycle reset: back to the start cave, belly empty.
- SU_C04New cycle, empty stomach, ten minutes of dry sky. The fruit up top is still out of reach. East to A41's batflies, then we finally crack SU_A22.
- SU_C04Still hungry and still on the long walk east. The batflies in A41 are breakfast. SU_A22 is the lock we mean to pick today.
- SU_C04Still trudging east along the hall floor, stomach growling. Batflies in A41 first, then the SU_A22 puzzle. Ten minutes of dry sky, no time to sightsee.
- SU_C04Three dangle fruits taunt us from just out of reach. Franky says forget them, so we do, grumbling. East to A41 for batflies.
- SU_C04The pipe to A41 is right ahead and the overseer is quietly watching. Breakfast is on the other side, if the batflies behave.
- SU_A41A41 again, and the batfly buffet is closed. Up the pole to A42 to find breakfast. The unexplored caves west are our real shelter bet today.
- SU_A41Top of the pole, A42's door right there. Last time it had batflies. Breakfast first, then the unexplored caves west for a bed.
- SU_A42One batfly down, three to go. A42 is a dead end with an empty pantry, so we turn west for the unexplored caves and pick up snacks on the way.
- SU_A42Two for two on batflies, and two more are buzzing overhead. That's exactly a bed's worth of food. Dinner first, then the long walk west to the caves.
- SU_A42We've been pacing the same little pit, torn between the door and dinner. Dinner wins. Two batflies up there have our names on them.
- SU_A42Batfly in paw, one bite from a full belly. Then back down through A41 and the long hall to the caves, bed-hunting with a full stomach for once.
- SU_A42Four pips, a full belly, and one smug batfly left alone. Now the long walk west to the unexplored caves, hoping for a bed.
- SU_A42Enough flies. The last one lives to buzz another day. Down the pipe and west toward the caves: ten minutes of sky left to find a bed we've never seen.
- SU_A41Full belly, no bed. Down the long hall to C04 and on to caves nobody's mapped. Ten minutes of sky left and a lot of dark to search.
- SU_A41At the C04 pipe with a full belly. The overseer watches us go. West to the caves, where the map goes blank and the bed hopefully isn't.
- SU_C04The caves are up a wall the pathfinder won't touch. We turn around, belly full, and try the unmapped door past A43 instead.
- SU_C04The caves said no. The wall's too tall, so we turn back east. The pipe is sixteen tiles away, and past A43 there's a door nobody's opened yet. Maybe the bed's behind it.
- SU_C04Back through the pipe we came in by. The caves are a wall, so the bed has to be past A43, behind the door marked A22. Ten minutes of sky left.
- SU_A41Back in A41 for the thirty-fifth time. We know every pole here by name. Up the right side to A43, then through the one door we've never opened. Ten minutes of sky left.
- SU_A41Up the long pole to A43, then through the one door we've never tried. Four pips in the belly and ten minutes of sky to find a bed.
- SU_A41Bobbing up and down the pole like an elevator stuck between floors. The A43 pipe is seven tiles east. Step off, slugcat. The bed is somewhere past A22.
- SU_A43Fourteen visits to A43 and we've never opened the bottom door. Today we do. Full belly, ten minutes of sky, and a pipe marked A22 going down into the unknown.
- SU_A43The pathfinder is touring A43's secret tunnels in a circle. The door to A22 is in the lower-right pocket. Maybe the tunnel on the far right is the way in.
- SU_A43Twice around A43's tunnel carousel and we've gotten nowhere. The west pipes eat their own tails. Next stop is the far-right mouth, the only hole we haven't poked our head into.
- SU_A43Blocked twice in the west tunnel. That hole is a loop, not a door. East along the ceiling corridor to the far-right mouth. Full belly, ten minutes of sky.
- SU_A43The A22 door sits in a sealed pocket, a room with no front door. The only way in is the eastern tunnel. Up, east, and in. Ten minutes of sky.
- SU_A43Still wedged in the west hole like a cork. Up and out, then east along the long hallway to the last tunnel we haven't sniffed. Ten minutes of sky, full belly.
- SU_A43Back on the top shelf after the west tunnels spat us out again. The pathfinder has learned those are a loop. East to the last hole we haven't tried. Ten minutes of sky.
- SU_A43Round three of A43's tunnel maze. The west holes are a closed loop. The A22 pocket must open from the east. Ten minutes of sky, full belly, stubborn slugcat.
- SU_A43Enough tunnel carousel. We're pointing our nose east, where one last unsniffed hole waits at the end of the hall. Full belly, ten minutes of sky, dwindling patience.
- SU_A43The eastern tunnel worked. We popped out right above the A22 door. Twenty seconds of sky left and a full belly. Dive in and pray there's a bed below.
- SU_A22Fourteen seconds on the clock and there it is: a shelter door, four tiles to the left. Full belly. Crawl in, curl up, let the sky fall.
- SU_S01Nine seconds to spare. Full belly, shelter door behind us. Curl up and let the sky fall on someone else.
- SU_A22We crawled out the back door of our own bedroom just as the sky cracked. One tile back left. Move, slug, move.
- SU_S01Back in bed after sleepwalking into a thunderstorm. The pipe is now forbidden territory. Four pips, sky collapsing, and this time we stay curled up.
- SU_S01Third time at the bedroom door. The pipe is locked by decree. Four pips, rain hammering the roof. Curl up, slug, and dream of batflies.
